Tell us a little bit about yourself as a photographer.
I'm from Okinawa Japan located in the south of Japan, small islands. Okinawa is like a Japan's Hawaii, we have a beautiful ocean and extremely clear sky. I started shooting skate photos since about 10 years ago. I've proudly worked for several Japanese skateboard magazines such as Transworld Skateboarding Japan and SB Skateboard Journal. Since I met Anthony Claravall I’ve luckily had many trips with skaters from all around of the world. Also I had an opportunity to meet these great photographers such as Joe Brook, Kyle Camarillo, Greg Hunt, Jake Darwen, Jelle Keppens, DVL, Marcel Veldman, Florian Hopfensperger. These amazing people are big influenced me. There is always the best filmer/photographer behind all the good skaters.
You are a Japanese photographer but you shot in Shanghai, why?
On July 5th I received a message from Jeff Han who is doing a distribution in Shanghai. I met him couple of years ago through my good friends Adee Lu from Taiwan. Jeff invested his money to get my flight from Taipei to Shanghai. He is a legend.
What was your plan for July 9, 2016?
I'm not a Shanghai local so Jeff took care of us everything. He organized all of the spots and made an arrangement the skaters. I just told him I am looking for the places that look like Shanghai.
Would you consider July 9 to be a pretty typical day in skateboarding for you?
Besides setting up at midnight, yes it was just a normal day of having fun and
it was a typical day except we started skating mad early morning and until 23:59 p.m.
Explain your approach to shooting that day.
I tried to capture everything and describe how the Shanghai city looks like.
Who was your July 9 MVP?
I would say everyone!
What is your favorite image that you shot that day?
Pushing photo Shanghai tower in the background. It was really late and of
course everyone is exhausted, but they were down to shoot which was amazing!
Do you have any upcoming projects or plans, and where can we see more of
I have a plan to go to Macau and Hong Kong, and Seoul with the New Balance
