As The Skateboard Mag's The Mag's Photo Editor/Production Manager/Co-Founder/All Around Great Guy, Grant Brittain knows a good photo when he sees one. Grant spent July 9 in San Diego (Encinitas, Ocean Beach, and Vista) with Jamie Thomas, Tony Hawk, Amelia Brodka, Neal Mims, and his son, Sage.
Sticking close to his 'hood enabled Grant to get an early start (shooting a beautiful sunrise was definitely on the agenda), but there's also a lot to be said for knowing your surroundings intimately. Grant certainly brings out a certain San Diego vibe in his ODIS photos. Best of all? Another Birdman invert for Grant's portfolio!
Grant's been shooting skateboarding for decades and he has what we call a "developed" sense of humor. We should've known better when we asked him about his future projects. "I have plans to rest all year for next year's One Day in Skateboarding," Grant said. "Possibly get one more photo."

Tell us a little bit about yourself as a photographer?
Been shooting skating for 37 years nonstop.
What was your plan for July 9, 2016?
I wanted to get a nice sunrise and sunset skate shot and fill in the in-between. I picked three legends, a rad woman skater, and my son, in my favorite place, San Diego County. Keeping my carbon footprint down.
Would you consider July 9 to be a pretty typical day in skateboarding for you?
I shot four days of skating in one day, that's good for me.
Who was your July 9 MVP?
My MPV was Jamie Thomas because he got up before dawn and was there on time. Thanks, Jamie. Also, a big thanks to Blake Johnston Films for filming all day, too.
What is your favorite image that you shot that day and why?
My favorite image I shot was the invert by Tony Hawk. That was the 1,567th invert I have shot of him since 1982.
Do you have any upcoming projects or plans, and where can we see more of your work?
6:38 a.m. July 9, 2016. Jamie Thomas, Encinitas CA
