(My data was collected from Erowid.org, drugwarfacts.org shroomery.org, 420chan.org, sagewisdom.org, wikipedia.org, entries from the Journal of Psychopharmacology, conversations with users, conversations with professionals, and personal experience.)

You guys can't just discount everything here. You have to approach it with raw science, considering none of you-or I-have a degree in pharmacology. This means you cannot look at this with any preconceptions or beliefs. You must look at the raw data. Coming at this subject with a firm belief without any real knowledge makes you blind to possibility.

In this case, we're looking at PSYCHO-pharmacology which is the study of the psychological effects on the brain by pharmaceuticals/drugs. There's an entire journal on the study that is constantly being updated. This journal covers the study of a wide variety of experimentation with a wide variety of substances. If you want to take a serious approach on a matter like this, that's the place to go.

Firstly, we should take a look at drugs as a whole. Drugs of any kind affect different people in different ways. This variation is a result of differing body masses, brain chemistry, previous bodily damage, mental capabilities, and body chemistry. How a person reacts to a drug can be negative, positive, or neutral. Of course, the effect usually takes place somewhere in the middle of two of those three extremes. Keep this paragraph in mind.
  2.
To get started, let's look at nicotine. There is a phenomenal number of people in the world that use various nicotine products. This includes an extremely large number of skaters. I personally can't go to the skatepark without seeing someone puffing away. This is because nicotine-in sensible quantities-helps the user concentrate. The nicotine molecules attach to adenosine receptors in the body-which increases heart-rate, increases neural activity, and raises metabolism. Of course, there are consequences to using nicotine frequently over an extended period of time. Adenosine levels rise, causing withdrawal symptoms such as inability to concentrate, headaches, nervousness, weight gain, and several other smaller symptoms.
When I use nicotine products (I prefer the gum or the new smokeless cigarettes because there's no smoke involved) I wait about 10-15 minutes for the dizziness to subside and then I can perform better at skateboarding, assignments, and social skills. Articulation is improved greatly and cognitive activity increases at least by 10%. This means that I'm simply performing at a high level. What I avoid is absorbing the nicotine too quickly. This causes effects of overdose-nausea, diarrhea, headache, and possibly loss of consciousness.
In conclusion of nicotine, because of the non-smoke products such as nicorette or nicoderm, people no longer have to worry about the effects of smoke on the lungs. The decision of whether or not to smoke is a matter of risk. If you're willing to risk addiction for performance, then you're a candidate for nicotine use. (Just to put a "no shit" statement here, if you do not enjoy the experience from nicotine, stop use immediately. Some people do react badly. This has to do with tolerance.)

If you didn't know, caffeine has quite similar effects on the body as nicotine. It also suppresses adenosine receptors. This is why it's common to drink and smoke at the same time. It's a boost. Caffeine and nicotine are both addicting and as funny as it sounds, should be used with caution because of this.

I like to look at statistics for facts. Numbers do talk, so lets look at some.
Annual causes of death in the United States:
    tobacco: 435000
    alcohol: 85000
    adverse(negative)reactions to prescription drugs: 32000
    Illicit(illegal)drug use: 17000
    anti-inflammatory drugs(aspirin): 7600
    Marijuana: 0

The first major correlation between these is that pot killed no one while the other drugs killed plenty of people. The illicit drugs that killed were counted in direct AND indirect instances, which means that the deaths may have occurred because of an action as opposed to the drug. The other statistics are quite self-explanatory.
A question that might be brought up here is "why is tobacco legal when it's almost killing half a million people a year while marijuana kills no one?" The simple answer to that is profit. Pot is a substance that's a lot harder to control in terms of social, economical, and political situations. If the government legalized pot, it is possible that it could heat the conflict between Mexican drug cartels and the United States. This is because the growers out there would lose every buyer in the States and have to resort to other means to survive. There are empires of cartels in Mexico.

I'm assuming none of you know much about this subject, nor do you want to read more of this because it's so long. If you want to learn more so that you aren't clueless, you should check out some of the sources that I listed at the top of this post.
Ask me some interesting questions or bring up an educated point. I don't want to hear something that anyone below the age of 15 could ask. This really is a vast subject and deserves more study in order to find advantages and dangers alike.
On my next post, I plan to write about Mushrooms, and Ibogaine in terms of medical use for mental effects and also a cure for addiction.
  4.
for me skating high is harder
  5.
I prefer a few good lung stretches myself
  6.
Well, pancakes, it's not just about doing it WHILE you're high. There are also neurological after-effects that come into play.

oh i see, but its hard to say, for everybody the high you get will be different, which I'm guessing means that everybody reacts differently to short and long term effects. i guess what i am saying is that you will never truly know for sure until you experience it yourself. Alcohol and cigarettes are the same way. sure the major symptoms will be the same but the psychological effects could be different. example would be how some people become addicted to Alcohol and some people don't. Its all just personal preference and you will never know until you try it for yourself. (I'm not saying that you should just saying what i think)
  7.
    Exactly.

    Mushrooms and Ibogaine

(Let me remind you that drugs affect each person differently and should never be treated otherwise. You should understand this and tell others this before giving anyone advice on any of this.)

First off, mushrooms and ibogaine are psychedelics. These make you hallucinate, raise your heart rate, and usually have some sort of long term psychological effect. Keep in mind that psychological effects are not always negative. For instance, a study at JHU showed that some test subjects had a higher appreciation for life and were generally happier for six months after taking mushrooms.

    Mushrooms:
Shrooms contain substances called psilocybin. When psilocybin is introduced to the bloodstream (get metabolized) it converts into psilocin. Psilocin has a similar chemical structure to the neurotransmitter serotonin (cells in the brain that affect sleep, appetite, sensory perception, temperature regulation, pain suppression and mood).
Serotonin is taken up or absorbed by neurons at receptor sites known as the 5-HT receptors. There are various types of 5-HT receptors, but for our purpose we'll generalize. Because psilocin's chemical structure is very similar to serotonin, it is taken up by the 5-HT2 receptor site (one of several 5-HT receptor types) as are many other common hallucinogens including LSD and mescaline.
After the psilocin molecules bind with the 5-HT2 receptor sites, little is known about what happens. Psilocin is considered a serotonin agonist and possibly may have reuptake inhibitory effects also(SSRI) .There is still not enough data to explain clinically exactly the effect of the active ingredients in psychedelic fungi. What we do know is that psilocin is NOT physically harmful to the body or brain. Psychological conditions can rarely arise from a very profound experience, but no physical harm is done by psilocin even in higher dosages.
Mushrooms are not addictive in any way. A common misconception is that people can overdose on them. This is false. It would take several POUNDS of mushrooms to kill you. It would be almost impossible for someone to eat that many without vomiting.
What CAN happen is that if a person with a bad heart takes mushrooms, they could potentially suffer some sort of heart failure. These do increase blood pressure and heart rate. But I haven't come across a case like this in my research.
  9.
    If you're buying shrooms:
Don't get ripped off. The price range is usually around $20-$40 for each eighth of an ounce. An eighth or a sixteenth is the common dose for a trip. When you get your baggie, you'll know whether or not you got enough. What you need to watch out for is mold. Shrooms do age pretty quickly, so they get moldy. Do not mistake bruises for mold. Both of them are blue/greenish. Take a cotton swab, wet it down, and rub it over the spot. If that color comes off, you probably have an infected bag. Talk to the person that sold it to you about it, and they might get you a new bag if they're cool.
Judge what you pay for them on the caps. The caps are the top of the mushroom and contain more psilocybin than the stems. If there are a lot of caps, it's probably nearing a higher price because they're higher quality.

What they can do for skating (from my experience)
I find it extremely fun to skate on low doses. I eat a couple caps, and in the next hour, I have infinite energy. I don't get tired, I can do tricks better, and the concrete is changing colors. I love it.
You can try it, of course, but don't just assume you'll be affected exactly the same way as I did. It may turn out bad. You could trip major balls and get hurt pretty badly.

    Effects it's had on me:
On one trip, I thought I was going to die. My heart was going really fast and I was tripping, so I was being ridiculous. All I could do was sit and think about death. Now, after about 6 months of reflection, I don't worry about death. We all have to die, so I shouldn't worry about it. No matter how it happens, it's GOING TO HAPPEN.
I also had a lot of trouble sleeping each time. Sleeping is the best way to stop a trip, but I find it hard to sleep. I usually have about 100 thoughts racing through my head at the same time, so focusing on sleep is impossible for me on shrooms. I also worry about bad trips when I'm in the dark on shrooms. Fuck that.
A long term effect that's happened to me is called HPPD (Hallucinogen Persisting Perceptual Disorder). This means that I have minor hallucinations even when I'm not on something. This is a temporary disorder, but it's not too bad. Every once in a while, if a bright color nearby is moved quickly (like a bright red ruler being thrown) the color will "drag" across the space it was thrown in for a brief second. Also, when I'm reading text, blurry white lines shimmer in the space between lines of text.
I've become much more philosophical about things. Everything is about learning for me now. So I now consider anything that I can learn to be interesting.
  10.
    Ibogaine:
I'll just give you a brief summary on this because the research is so easy to do. Ibogaine is a substance that causes a very strong and kind of short-but intense trip. It's used in some countries as a cure for addiction, but is illegal in the United States. It's derived from the roots of the Iboga plant, which thrives in some parts of Africa.
Here's a really cool page on Ibogaine:

i smoke weed and skate i progress atleast 5 times faster. weed clears your mind.

all you got to do wen you skate is clear your mind and concentrate only on your skating and youll be able to progress the same way. its hard tho cus you have to silence all the words and voices in your head thinking about shit.

live by instincts, not words ;]
  14.
Pure wisdom, mate. Of course, I can't skate for shit on weed because it affects me differently. My balance and depth perception goes to shit. Shrooms on the other hand... I rock the board like a madman. I've never been able to pump that hard or have that much energy. I felt like the fucking Hulk.

Each and every person here is an idiot who hates school am I right? Well then all those odious can go to college and get a life...idiots.
  15.
School is probably the best thing you can do for yourself. College is a way to broaden horizons, network with potential career partners, and to open students up to an infinite array of potential. If you understand that learning opens you up and allows you to make connections to everything and everyone, you can enjoy doing just about anything - you can find surplus enjoyment in life.
Ever since I discovered the mental power that writing and constant reflection, I have been able to disconnect from myself and see the world from a number of perspectives. For me, the best perspective has been through the lens of the skateboard/longboard world. It's a world that can easily dump out cliche's and meaning and just let things be. It's a perspective that allows for freedom of thought, personality, style, and choices - skateboarding is a pure form of freedom. The community can be pretty fucked up sometimes, but there's more to skateboarding than the videos, being proper, the names, tricks... there's no one way to do any of it.
The mix of skateboarding, college, and drugs has led me down a path where I realize that every possibility in life can be great - no matter what. I'm almost to the point where I'm completely indifferent towards death. And I should be - a skateboarder can die at ANY given moment. The same goes for any person: death could be tripping on a curb while walking home.

I find that Psilocybin makes me an extremely better skater; I can simply do way more tricks and they all feel so so good. Low doses are more appropriate to skate with as they do not dissolve the reality too much, However a large dose and some Pink Floyd is absolutely breathtaking, though one must be cautious.

Marijuana also taps me into this positive state (though not as intensely).

Alcohol does make skating very fun, though at the expense of clarity and precision. Actually 2 or 4 beers will make me skate better, but more than that not so much; with alcohol it is a very fine line.

I would love to see this topic explored/discussed further. Overall I think mushrooms have the most positive impact on my outlook on skating and skating in general.
