"Skateboarding" on the cover of Time

Gotta love it. "Skateboarding" on the cover of Time Magazine used as a prop in a story about America's fat kids. Maybe that fool should push around a little bit. There's no full size image, but you get the idea.

Mike writes about skateboarding and lives in Minnesota. He's short and listens to NPR all day.

Out of control. They say that this generation will be the first where kids will quite possibly die before their folks.
You almost feel like speaking up to parents when you see them... tell them they are flat-out assisting their children to an early grave. You might look like an asshole, but there is no other way to drive the point towards this country's disrespect of their own bodies. I don't know... no one probably even makes fun of fat kids these days, cause they are a majority.

That kid reminds me of the fat kids that come to my skate park and ask me how I do basic things such as kickflip or boardslide. Then when I take the time to tell them, instead of trying, they just leave because it takes some actual effort. It is sad how lazy kids are these days. We will end up having to pay for their medical bills through our taxes when they are too fat to work and pay for their type II diabetes treatments.

I always get the "Shhh! That's rude!" from friends and family when I call out to the fattys. Why? I know they bask in the hollers.

yeah well M little bro is fat and hes gnarly at skating so I don'w really care. Its ironic that this company used to own transworld! this is what they think of skateboarding! and children. The total insanity of it all is mesmerizing how they think that because there are some kids that are fat that means the new generation are all a bunch of slugs. blame the parents I say, we have placed more value on upward mobility in a fast moving career than we have on taking care of ourselves and living a solid, healthy life. I say shame on time for trying to exploit children and make us all look like a bunch of idiots when its these same so-called authorities that pollute us with these asinine images of fear. Furthermore, I would say that it is skateboarders who are going against the grain of childhood obesity by being physically active and enjoying the outdoors in a productive fashion. But then again, fat kids at the skatepark ( and photo dudes) are fun to skate with. For shame, these foolish hypocites at time need to lighten up and realize that not every kid exists to eat cake and ice cream and play video games. The hypocrisy is enough to drive you insane, I swear.

I think it should be the opposite. If there's like a couple fat kids in your community then I would avoid makin' fun of them -- they already know they have a problem. However, if it's the majority, I believe you should point out that there's a problem.

its definitely the parents fault and i believe that the government wants americans to get fat because the more problems we have to deal with medically the more money they make.
