Most of us would never suspect that the Fallbrook region of San Diego County has deep roots in skateboarding history. However, it does and back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, skate photos from this region graced the covers and insides of the world’s leading skateboard publications. This vibrant history and its iconic images will be celebrated in a fundraising art show entitled “Skateboarding in the land of Avocados” at the Fallbrook Brewing Company, 136 N. Main. The art show is being curated by renowned photographers Grant Brittain (who grew up in Fallbrook) and Dave Swift (Founders of The Skateboard Mag) and will feature legendary photos of Tony Hawk, Jamie Thomas, Mike McGill, Chris Miller, Mark Gonzales, Jason Jesse and many others.

Fallbrook Skatepark Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization will host a ticketed VIP opening reception on art” project being built downtown in a portion of Jackie Heyneman Park. During two VIP sessions (4:00- 6:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.) you will have the opportunity to be the first to view and purchase a piece of skateboarding’s history. Tickets are $40 and include VIP admission, beer sampling of Fallbrook Brewing Company’s finest creams, IPA’s, stouts and a little something made for the occasion, delectable fare from Oink and Moo Burgers & BBQ as well as Vince’s Pizza, VIP goody bags, raffles and you never know what legendary skater will be in attendance! Tickets can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/619388 and are limited due to capacity so don’t wait as this event will sell with proceeds going to benefit the construction of the Avocado Bowl, a “skateableArt” project over that weekend and the art will be on display until late May. Come out and show your support for something that is long overdue in this community.
