Gravis Dylan Giveaway Winner

09.02.10 – The Skateboard Mag

Lubens Fortere made a valid point for Dylan’s shoe being punk. His impossibles just got higher with these limited kicks now in his possession.

Lubens Fortere- Do these shoes stand out? Yes they do….why they stand out? it’s not because they look like the diamond wingtips or that fact that they have a crazy Blood Red coating, it’s because in this day of knockoffs, it’s one of the shoes that actually made people question how skate shoes can be made outside the box. and plus, Dylan’s Gravis part reminded me why people actually waited for video parts on VHS…….THAT EPIC!!!!!!!!

Honorable Mentions
Alex Merritt- Skateboarding is all about originality. When skateboarders stop welcoming new ideas, and coming out with wierd shit that make people look twice, then the essence of skateboarding is lost.

Ralph Molina- When i was in 7th grade and on full skate rat mode, my dad gave me some gravis sweatbands on the random. Who knew years later they’d be making some funky looking kicks? I want these, because my feet need some love, oh and they would match my… gravis sweatbands.

Chris Morrison- So i can listen/dance to the smiths/morrissey in them when i go out!

James Finger- I think they’re sick as shit. My cat would love to claw the fuck out of them.

Shralp Ya Bass- With the blood of many demons slain upon my SYB wooden shralp axe these fine shoes would soak up the demonic energy and give me satanic pop for some concrete wave slaying……

Collier Dallas- Punk as Fuck!! He’s doing his own thing and that’s what punk is about. It’s not dressing like the Ramones or some band that’s already had their moment. It’s about creating you own. Dylan’s skating and style embodies that and inspires others to do the same. Even if you don’t like the shoes in particular, you have to respect the balls that he and Gravis have to put them out.

Ian Coughlan- I need these to help me get laid. I have never felt the tender caress of a woman. Please, I’m desperate.

Kevin Jones- O.k. So if I were to acquire these shoes from you for free…I would shred the fuck out of them after having had them in my closet for 3 months because I didn’t think they were my style at all when they showed up at my house and I saw them… in person. After finally growing up a bit and realizing how steezy I look in Dylan Rieder’s pro shoe, not to mention how comfortable they feel on my feet, I would wear them for another 3 months because they really aren’t skate shoes. Break these shoes in real good, party in them, take them off before getting into bed and shit, be good to my now favorite pair of chill shoes. Then one night after work I will have my skateboard in the trunk of my car, my friend Jake will ask me if I want to sesh all night and I’ll say “Eh, I’m not too sure. I only have my Dylan’s to skate in.” Jake will convince me to go out skating regardless. The moment I step on my skateboard and let my legs suck up in that first ollie (wearing the above shoes) will be fantastic. I’ll cruise around a bit to get a feel for them, then move onto the customary flatground tricks; i.e. b/s 180, kickflip, tre-flip, 180 no comply…etc. As the night progresses we have a fun sesh, which is all you can ever ask for, and maybe someone gets a clip or breaks a board trying. I realize how much of a dumb puss I’ve been all this time not skating these awesome shoes and never want to skate anything else…until Dylan’s next shoe comes out. That’s the truth.

Nebi Milutinovic- I would want these shoes so if ever i wanted to play peter pan in a show i could, as well as afterwords putting on a whole new batch of clothes then go to a house jam, blast Bobby The King Of Boys Land’s Petrified Forest, and go nuts, of course play it under a needle, everything sounds better that way ;)

Leurin Estevez- These shoes are a kick in the pimply face of skateboarding. These shoes are a statement of growth! In an industry aimed at young adolescents with awkward sense of style, these shoes provide a safe choice for the skate fashionista. In a culture marked by its defiance of social norms and criticism these shoes prevail. There’s nothing more punk rock than a pair shoes that aims at a higher level of versatility when the main stream standard stays caught in the whirlpool of mediocre trends.

Dan Ostrander- I didn’t realize Dylan was into Canadian computer hackers. I am assuming this shoe is a tribute to Oxblood Ruffin who helped define the term hacktivism which is “the nonviolent use of illegal or legally ambiguous digital tools in pursuit of political ends. These tools include web site defacements, redirects, denial-of-service attacks, information theft, web site parodies, virtual sit-ins, virtual sabotage, and software development.”

Shane Joyce- yo them shits look like a goat’s blood x fine wine collabo. You ever seen wine shoes? you could drink those and turn into a mawfukkin vampire yo. Shred for eternity and turn chicks into vamps with those shoes and a deep v-neck shirt nahmean

Matt Skakun- I FUCKING NEED THESE SHOES! MY MOM BET ME 100$ I WOULDN”T WEAR THEM AND I LOVE PROVING PEOPLE WRONG!!!

Matthew James Kruse- While many talk about being individuals, very few have the guts to really do something different. i think dylan has taken a risk and is succeeding. he’s a stylish guy, and they’re stylish shoes. i’m backing the kid 110%

Eric Franklin- Punk..no. Has everyone over 30 forgotten what the punk era was like?
If they looked like dr martin’s or winos then yeah maybe.
Fruit boots..why yes they do look the part.
