The year was 1980 and I had just picked up a camera a few months prior and was rapidly being consumed by this new passion, photography. Working at the Del Mar Skate Ranch gave me the opportunity to look over the pro skate photographers’ shoulders, but no one was giving up secrets in an already over saturated photog market. There were at least six photographers. That’s Jim Goodrich, pro photog on the left, he was famous to me.
Here’s a shot of a young Steve Caballero stalling an Andrecht, taken with a 50mm lens, this was 3 years before I had the cash to buy a fisheye. Gator’s in the photo standing next to Jim Goodrich.
Back then, photography wasn’t easy, there was no Google.
